Chapter 23
They sat, Xander perching on the edge of
the sofa cushion, ready to run, and David
leaning back, as relaxed as he could be, his
hand still resting casually on Xander's hip.
As he lowered himself stiffly into
his easy chair, Big Al growled:
And kindly take your
hands off my son.
David complied immediately,
folding his hands into his lap.
Certainly, sir.
Rebellious anger surged upward, but
Xander bit it back in favor of mere
assertiveness, warning his father:
Dad, if you can't be polite,
we're going to have to leave.
His father glowered at him.
This is as polite as it's going to get.
Xander rose and held out his hand to David.
Alright, we need to
go, then. I'm sorry.
