The thing about fear is...

Though, in all fairness, my mother never
opened the door to see what was on the
other side. She didn't want to know.
Which brings us to the most
amusing and intriguing story
of the entire haunting.
Before you'll understand fully why
things went down the way they did,
first you have to remember the year.
it was 1979 or early 1980. cable TV was
just taking off and barely offered any
content. Most folks had only about
13ish channels. of those, only 3-5 were
worth watching. VCRs, while available,
were not in every household, and were
still exceedingly expensive ($600-$1100+)
and not very reliable.
TV, when it was watched, was an event. folks
would wait weeks, sometimes months for a
show, jotting down the time so they wouldn't
miss it. When it premiered, people got ready
beforehand, lights dimmed, bathroom breaks
taken, food and drink in hand, and ready to
watch the whole thing, no distractions.
why? Because reruns weren't as common or easy
to find. Anything you missed, you missed, and it
could be a year--or several--before you saw it
again. And that was assuming you ever did. Many
things were run once and never again.
That night, my mom was ready. She'd
waited weeks for this movie to
come on, anticipating it almost daily.
I was long since asleep, and she'd
settled in for hard earned relaxation
The movie started and--

She turned the movie up, but--

She turned it up again and--

thump

This happened several more times,
with her turning up the set and the
footsteps on the stairs growing
progressively louder each time,
drowning out the movie--

--until--
ENOUGH!!!
I have been looking forward to
this show for weeks. And after a
70 hour work week, I think I'm
entitled! Now shut up and let me
watch my show!
There was not a peep from our
ghost for the rest of the night.
But matters continued to escalate.
That insignificant snowball was
getting huge, Fast...
happy!
BE
mommy!
Mommy! Who's
the man in my
doorway?
...definitely stronger, and possibly dangerous.
