I awoke to a hundred pounds
of solid muscle lying on top
of me. Since my weight isn't
much more, and less of it was
muscle than I cared to admit,
it was like trying to remove an
obscenely stubborn boulder.

At least he wasn't square on my chest. If he
had been, I wouldn't have been able to breathe.
You know, before I came here, I had passed out exactly zero times in my life. Now I'd had no less than two blackouts in a week, and it wasn't funny. In fact, it was starting to scare me.
I slowly became aware of a sound, low, breathy, not quite rhythmic, but close. It sounded like someone gasping for air or--

He was wrecked. No, he was worse than
wrecked. He was pale, and the lines in his
face had deepened. The circles under his
eyes had gone so dark they looked like
bruises, and he cried as if he couldn't
help himself. He was cracking in two
right before my eyes, and i was pinned by
a damned mongrel!
