The battle was far from being over, however.
Linnel was indeed exhausted by the time they stopped to rest for the night. Her feet were sore and blistered from having walked such an unaccustomed distance, her legs ached, her head ached, her insides were distressed and
roiling . . . .
The only part of her as yet not weary was her vicious tongue.
Bruno dismissed the dragon as the time of its transformation drew nigh. Although the girl was now aware of the creature's nature, still the barbarian insisted that the dragon leave them for a short time while its actual change took place, so as not to expose the girl further to the young man's unclothed flesh.
So the dragon departed their company gladly now, vexed as it was by Linnel's incessant nagging, and the unlucky Bruno was left behind to contend with her on his own.
Never in my life have I been
dealt with so miserably! Not even that monster Orgot treated me as horridly as I have been treated this day! Bruno, I tell you sincerely -- I shall not go on another step until you have rid us of that foul servant of yours! Whatever promises you have made him, you shall simply have to break! I tell you, I cannot tolerate his presence a
single day more!
My lady, you are fatigued.
You know not what you say.
Oh, I know full well
what I say, you stupid
brute! And you had
best attend to my
words, for I mean
every last one of them
with all my heart!

I like the furs round them. Vicious tongues rarely grow weary...
